Abstract

Optimising the vehicle speed profile under specific traffic conditions has been a research topic in the last decade. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) information can be combined to predict the surrounding vehicles' evolution and later optimize the acceleration to minimize fuel consumption, pollutant emissions and energy consumption. This paper analyses the potential of an optimal trajectory obtained by dynamic programming under predetermined traffic conditions and full knowledge of traffic timing and phase. It compares the potential profit of an optimal speed profile when applied to distinct types of powertrain, i.e., a battery electric vehicle (BEV), a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), or an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. Numerical simulations with two different traffic conditions have been performed, comparing the performance of each powertrain.
