Abstract

Many airports around the world are increasing the amount of electric ground service vehicles in their fleet as they aim to decarbonize their operations. At the same time, the power sources are moving towards renewable energy which introduces another element of uncertainty to an environment that is very reliant on careful scheduling. To overcome these challenges, we propose an energy management scheme (EMS) for electrified ground fleets at large airports with renewable energy generation on-site. The proposed online control scheme is augmented with forecasts for weather, grid pricing, and ground handling demand to improve performance and increase robustness against otherwise unforeseen events. Simulated results on Amsterdam Schiphol show that our EMS can effectively schedule the charging of such a fleet whilst ensuring to meet operational constraints.
